Patient education

The goal of the Health Clinic Department is to educate patients and the community about dental health, prevention and dental diseases. The Dental Staff is trained to discuss these things with you. We have a number of educational tools, display models and pamphlets, in our department, that provide information on:

• Periodontal Health
• Root Canal Therapy
• Sealants
• Fixed Bridges
• Caring for Primary Teeth
• Dental Care for Toddlers

For babies

• Prevent baby bottle tooth decay by not putting baby to sleep with a bottle.
• Clean baby’s gums and teeth after every feeding with a small damp cloth, even before teeth come in.
• Teach baby to use a “sippy” cup or training cup around six months.
  
• Have baby use a training cup at age one, do away with the bottle.
  
• Baby should have a first visit to the Dentist around age one.
  

FOR KIDS

• Limit drinks high in sugar, choose healthy snacks.
• Brush your children’s teeth with a soft toothbrush for two minutes at least twice a day, use a pea size amount of toothpaste that small children will not swallow.
  
• Floss daily, as soon as the child is able, around six year old.
  
• Visit the Dentist at least once a year.

FOR ADULTS

• Brush twice daily and floss daily.
  
• Visit the Dentist at least once a year.
  
• Visit the Dental Hygienist per Dentist recommendation.
